“Refractory Highlights” is a refractory materials conference, which regularly gathers Nordic experts to share their expertise on refractory materials and discuss the development and outlook on the field.

This year’s conference was the third of its kind – and the first to be held after COVID. The event took place at the Savoy hotel in Luleå, Sweden. The two-day conference was organised in cooperation between Bet-Ker Oy and Krosaki Harima Europe. To our delight, we noticed that there were once again more participants than there were last time!

The first day of the conference included presentations from the manufacturers and users of refractory materials. The topics covered, among others, the recycling, safety, testing and drying of refractory materials, as well as new adhesives for refractory bricks. Between presentations, experts held discussions related to the topics. At the end of the day, everyone gathered for an excellent dinner in the Savoy hotel’s restaurant, which also enabled effective networking.

The second day included plant tours relating to refractory materials, hosted by the staff at the SSAB Luleå steel mill. The conference guests visited both the brickshop and continuous casting area, learning about refractory material installation equipment and various use purposes, among other things. The day ended with lunch at the SSAB restaurant.

The Refractory Highlights conference will be organised again in 2024 with a familiar concept: a first day filled with presentations and a second with a plant visit relating to refractory materials. The conference will take place in May – we will announce the location and further details at a later date.
