1. By reducing the usage of refractory products

When refractory products are manufactured, the calcination and sintering of raw materials produces a lot of carbon dioxide emissions. Hence, the most efficient way to reduce emissions is to reduce the usage of refractory products. This is why we are developing more durable products and solutions that help our customers to achieve the same results while using fewer refractory products in their processes.

2. By recycling refractory products

Manufacturing virgin raw materials produces more than ten times the amount of emissions compared to the recycling process, which is why we strive to recycle refractory products as efficiently as possible.

3. By favoring products made of natural minerals

Whenever possible, we use natural minerals in our products, such as olivine, andalusite and quartz. These minerals do not require calcination or sintering – they only need to be dried before being delivered to us, which significantly reduces the carbon footprint.

4. By using products with low thermal conductivity

The better insulating a refractory product is, the less heat is wasted during the customer’s process. And lower fuel consumption contributes to a smaller carbon footprint. For example, the thermal conductivity of the spinel-forming castable we use for the lining of steel ladles is less than half of the thermal conductivity of the MgO-C brick.
