The Refractory Highlights conference gathers refractory material professionals from across the Nordics each year to discuss industry trends, share experiences, and develop solutions together. The two-day event was hosted this time in Ludvika, Sweden.
The conference began in 2018 when Betker wanted to create a platform for industry stakeholders to explore the practical challenges and opportunities of metallurgical processes from a refractory materials perspective. The event has developed year by year, and participants have found it to be a valuable source of knowledge, networking, and inspiration. The event was especially pleased by its relaxed and open atmosphere.
Expert Talks and Factory Tour
The 2025 conference once again offered a rich and diverse program. During the two days, participants heard expert presentations on topics such as:
- Advantages of Monolithic Ladles
- Next generation MgO-C for EAF high solicitation areas
- Testing and implementation of new solutions
- The importance of collaboration among the supplier, customer, and end user is emphasised
The program also included real-world examples, and case studies from various industries. The second day concluded with a factory visit to Ovako Smedjebacken production site, where participants had the chance to see refractory material applications.
Collaboration That Moves the Industry Forward
The central message of the conference was clear: only through collaboration can we develop more sustainable and efficient solutions. Throughout the presentations and discussions, a shared theme emerged — openness, a problem-solving mindset, and deep understanding of customer processes are the foundation for real progress.
