Kim Asp entered the steel industry before his military service and spent many years at SSAB before joining Betker. His career has taken him from steel casting work to technical support, and he has extensive experience across the stages of steelmaking. Decades of hands-on work and a strong problem-solving mindset have made him a trusted expert in the field.
Kim’s path to technical support
Kim first crossed paths with Betker through materials testing at SSAB around 2017–2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he became the link between SSAB and Betker’s team. When Betker’s sales manager, Mikael Nivala, mentioned a job opening, Kim joked:
“What would my salary be?”
Shortly after, he headed to Ylivieska, Finland, for the next step in his career and joined Betker in May 2022.
Today, Kim works as a Technical Support Engineer, combining technical expertise with sales support. In this varied role, he supports Swedish customers with material needs, product testing and process development.
“The best part of my job? Working with customers. When a problem is solved, the process runs smoothly, and the customer is happy,” says Kim.
Putting the customer first
What matters most to Kim is making life easier for customers. When the process flows and production runs as it should, he knows his work is making a difference.
“A customer got in touch right after the Christmas break. Their stock would last only a few days, and the normal delivery was two weeks away. We supplied the material within four to five days and topped up their stock for the entire month.”
Those are the moments when customers’ trust in Betker is reinforced. Situations like these are the real highlights of the job.
Betker as a workplace
At Betker, decisions are made promptly. The team helps one another and keeps up the pace so the work gets done. Collaboration runs smoothly in Swedish and English. The Finnish sales team has been keen to learn Swedish, and team meetings are now partly in Swedish.
Kim highlights the freedom of the role and the strong collaboration as the main reasons he enjoys working at Betker. The whole company pulls in the same direction and helps one another without unnecessary bureaucracy.
“We’re like friends, and we stay in touch whenever needed, around the clock.”
