Juho Vähäsöyrinki
Title: Project Engineer
Education: Bachelor of Engineering, Industrial Management
At Betker: since 2015
Free time: Everyday life revolves around family time with a 1.5-year-old. Free time is often spent at the summer cottage, outdoors and fishing during the summer.
When Juho Vähäsöyrinki was looking for a summer job in Ylivieska, he decided to call Betker. It turned out to be the right move: what started as a summer job has grown into a career spanning over a decade.
– I was looking for a summer job and thought there might be an interesting company nearby. I called Betker and went for an interview. The next day, I got the call that I got the job, Juho recalls.
Today, he works as a Project Engineer at Betker and has gained a broad understanding of the company from many different perspectives over the years.
At Betker, you get to do a bit of everything
Juho graduated as an Industrial Management Engineer from Centria University of Applied Sciences in 2014, and he also completed his thesis at Betker. However, his journey with the company started earlier, in 2012, when he worked in the casting department during the summer.
He moved into a permanent role in 2015, and the job has been anything but repetitive.
– The role has included a wide range of tasks: production development projects, responsibility for maintenance, and 3D design. I’ve also stepped in to support production supervisors when needed, so I’ve had the chance to see quite broadly how everything works.
Today, Juho focuses mainly on design work and production development projects. His daily tasks include element and mould design and spare part drawings, as well as preparing and advancing investment projects.
One thing is certain: no two days are exactly the same.
Experience builds confidence
When Juho joined Betker as a newly graduated engineer, much of the learning happened on the job.
– Education provides you a solid foundation, but practical expertise develops over time through real work. Over the years, I’ve learnt how our processes work and how the bigger picture comes together.
With experience, Juho has learned to view production from multiple angles, understanding how different stages connect and where development opportunities typically arise.
A strong sense of community
When asked to describe Betker as a workplace, Juho highlights three things: reliability, team spirit, and the opportunity to influence your own work.
– There’s a great team here and a strong sense of community. If you have good ideas, you can bring them up, and they will be listened to.
According to Juho, the best parts of the job are flexibility, great colleagues, and the fact that you can genuinely influence your own work.
A top-level athlete – at least once
Sometimes, employee stories reveal unexpected backgrounds. In Juho’s case, it’s a sport.
– In 2018, I ranked among the top competitors in the Finnish Championships of bucket carrying, he says modestly.
Not something you’ll find on just any CV.
A career can start with one phone call
If Juho had one piece of advice for someone applying to Betker, it would be simple:
– Just be yourself. Even if you don’t know everything about the field yet, you will learn by doing it.
And as his own story shows, sometimes one phone call is all it takes to start a long career.
