One of our operating principles and a key focus area for development is continuous improvement. It generates a “compund interest” effect: we take small development steps to take things in the right direction and, when accumulated over the years, these steps will form a huge leap. Small steps that improve everyday work can be taken  – and, similarly, it will be quickly revealed how they are leading us in the right direction.

Of course, we are also implementing larger, visible projects, such as the recycling material shelter built this year. A year ago, we decided to expand our storage facilities for recycling material. We knew in advance that laying building foundations on our rocky yard would be a demanding project. We nevertheless decided to do it because the shelter would bring us multiple benefits: improve order and cleanliness in the yard, facilitate storage and reduce the need for drying.

The yard was cleared of trees right after Christmas and excavation was started at the turn of the year and completed during the winter and spring. The contractor crushed the blasted rock that filled the yard to a size that was more suitable for earthwork. At this point, the high piles of crushed rock made the yard feel cramped, but this was only for a short time. And, thanks to our arrangements, functionality and safety were maintained even during this time.

During the summer, our partners Kuula and Veljekset Rantala laid the foundations and cast the plinths, after which Vieskan elementti installed the wall elements and the roof. As a finishing touch, the local asphalt plant asphalted the yard. The change is easy to see; the last picture was taken 25 years ago. 😊

At Betker we want to continue on our journey and develop our operations. Time will show what tomorrow brings – whatever it is, we will face it with our heads held high!
